Living in a Box for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice

Living_in_a_box_banner

fwb were recently approached by the Douglas Macmillan Hospice to support one of their fundraisers Richard Stonier, who is completing 40 challenges to raise £40,000 for the hospice in memory of his mother Diane. His latest challenge surrounds the DMH 'Bring a Pound Day', where he will be living in a box in the foyer of Asda Tunstall supermarket for 7 days starting at 4pm this Saturday 5th October, undertaking various challenges throughout the week.

In search for a box for their intrepid supporter, The DMH asked for our help. With the help of our some of our suppliers Amari Plastics Ltd, Kee Safety, and The Printing House, we obtained all materials required and Peter Edwards our site maintenance manager expertly constructed it within 24 hours. The box is made up of a Kee Klamp frame, clear polycarbonate sheet sides (all available from fwb), and branded vinyls on each side.

Richard and Trevor, a member of the DMH team, came to our Stoke-on-Trent site to meet Richard's new 'home' today - he was impressed! We cant wait to see him living in it next week at Asda Tunstall, and hope he raises heaps of cash for such a fantastic cause!

Trevor also filmed a short video of Richard meeting his new 'home'...

This morning we delivered Richard's new home to Asda Tunstall supermarket and got it into position ready for his challenge to start tomorrow. Here's a sneak peek of how it will look without the protective covering...

And so it begins! At 4pm Richard and his friend Carl Heaton entered the box to start their week-long challenge. They had some great support from shoppers on the day, and were giving out marker pens for supporters to sign the box in exchange for a small donation. Asda have kindly provided free Wi-Fi and power to the box so that Richard can keep all his Facebook fans updated with their progress, and media coverage of his challenge has gone national with a great article in The Mirror.

Today Richard and Carl took on their first sub challenge - an 80km spin for Richard and 20km spin for Carl. Get peddling guys!

9th October 2013

Richard is a fitness instructor and runs an Xtreme bootcamp every Wednesday. This week it was held at Asda Tunstall just outside of the box from 6.15pm-7.15pm.

It was also announced on Signal 1 radio at lunchtime that presenter Martin Lowes and producer Jonty would join Richard and Carl in the box for the night if an extra £1000 was raised between 2pm and 7pm. They reached their target in time, so Martin and Jonty remained true to their word and stayed overnight in the box last night.

Supported by Blackbrook Zoo, Richard was joined in the box by a 12ft Python called Duchess from 3pm-5pm today. But that wasn't the only box visitor - he also had bearded dragons, a chameleon, and a tarantula in with him too!

11th October 2013

In conjunction with The Douglas Macmillan Hospice's 'Bring a Pound Day', today is the day that Richard and Carl's 'Living in a box' challenge comes to an end. They are due to come out at 6pm this evening, and are thoroughly looking forward to getting back to normal...and having a shower! But for one last challenge, today has been onesies day. Richard has been sporting an eye-catching Sponge Bob Square Pants onesie, with Carl in a fetching batman version. They were also challenged to see how many onesie-wearers they could get into the box, which resulted in 22 weirdly dressed supporters squished together!

fwb have also joined in with 'Bring a Pound Day', and so far have raised in the region of £100 for the hospice with a staff 'dress down day'. We are proud to support such a fantastic cause.

12th October 2013

Richard and Carl's total amount raised has been confirmed today at somewhere between £8,000 - £9,000. BBC News issued a great article about the challenge on the following webpage http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-stoke-staffordshire-24506359

Congratulations from all at fwb.
